Who: Haruka+Miyume+Anyone who wants to jump in
Where: School Pool
When: Monday April 10th, before swim club starts

It was half an hour early but the perfect time for Haruka. No one else was there yet, allowing her to get a feel for it.

Already in her swim suit with her towel wrapped neatly around her waist, she wandered around outlining edge of the pool, memorizing and guesstimating how big it was compared to the one at her old school. It felt about a few seconds worth bigger...

"Sure. Don't see why the captain would turn away an adorable, eager helper when people will inevitably play hooky anyway," Haruka replied.

"It's loads of fun. And we get all the leftovers and free sushi afterwards so dinner and dessert, sort of."

"I'll look forward to it then, senpai."

It certainly did sound fun. It'd be nice to actually do something fun with other people for a change instead. Back in Tokyo, she'd only really done things with Ayana and most of the time it was same thing over and over. Maybe before that had satisfied Miyume but now, she found herself looking forward to being a part of something different.

"A bunch of slackers in the club, huh?"

"A few," Haruka replied, with a bit of a shrug. She ran a finger through a small droplet of water on the bench and drew random shapes.

"They'd probably apologize profusely and say they have things they have to do during then. Homework, other club work, living a double life and fighting evil and protecting the world from the shadows..."

Miyume giggled. Haruka really was funny. She decided she liked it.

"Being drama club is suffering," she said in a deeply somber voice.

Haruka laughed, so hard she had to force herself to stop and breathe. She leaned her forehead against her hand and went, higher pitched and more innocent,

"Become an actress, Hazama-san, save the school."

Miyume burst out laughing, too, holding her sides. Most of it was genuine mirth but if Haruka listened closely enough, it sounded a little strained like one might detect in someone trying to cover up something much more painful. Then it passed and Miyume's laughter sounded as perfectly normal as any other teenage girl's.

"Become an actress, senpai?" she asked after she'd managed to calm down a little. "That's a new one. I've not heard that one before."

Haruka heard the strain and tilted her head. Laughing that hard? She replied, though,

"I didn't either. The demand for blind actors is a low one." She leaned back. "Could be fun though? You got a cute voice and can shift."

"Thanks. I guess I could give it a try? I've never done voice acting before," she said idly, seemingly unaware of the slip she'd just made.

Her mind drifted toward her family and Ayana back in Tokyo. It was true she'd never done voice acting or drama but it wasn't as if she was completely devoid of acting experience.

Haruka visibly perked up.

"You're interested in VAing?"

"A little. I met a fandubber online recently who was really cool and talented. Witty, too. She had a great sense of humor like you do, too."

Miyume smiled at the memory of the burning potato story.

"She seemed really nice. I'd like to meet her, I think. I bet we could have a lot of fun together."

"Huh. Really?" Haruka asked, amused. "What's her handle? I might have heard her. Or I can go stalk her through the internet until I either become a fan girl or I decide to declare her my mortal rival."

"Your mortal rival?" Head tilt. "Oh, are you a fandubber, too? I think it was something like Jack Frost? Or Jacky Frost? I have a hard time remembering internet handles."

That got a long pause from Haruka.

"MeTube fandubber? JacqliFrost?"

"JacqliFrost! That was it. And yes, she was on MeTube. Have you heard her work? She's really great."

Miyume carried on, cheerfully oblivious.

"I suscribed to her channel so I can watch for update. I'm looking forward to what she does next."

That drew a longer pause.

Compared to Hazama's cheerful obliviousness, Haruka looked like a whole line of light bulbs and whatness were going off for a moment. She recovered, and instead broke into laughter.

"I-interesting..." She wiped at her eyes and inhaled deeply. "I've heard of her." Beat. "She sounds like this, right?"

She straightened her back and her expression became intense and scornful as her voice became lower pitched and sharp,

"FOOLISH FOOL! I grow tied of foolish fools who dream foolish dreams! If you have the time to spout fantasies then you should have the time to looks for evidence."

Miyume's eyes widened. She recognized both the dialogue and the voice from the video she watched. As soon as Haruka had finished, Miyume started laughing, this one sounding completely natural. Even after she finally stopped, Miyume continued grinning.

"I should have known." Miyume chuckled. "Too much of a coincidence to meet two people with the exact same sense of humor around the same time. That was really good, by the way."

"Thanks, I really don't hear that in real life much," Haruka replied with a grin. "Small world I guess? Or 'What a twist'.

"Do I seem like I match up to what you thought?"

"Either way." Miyume laughed. "You're about what I was picturing, actually. Plus a trait I would never have guessed from talking to you online."

She was dying to know how that worked but she still didn't want to come across as rude or nosy.

"Huh. Guess I'm pretty predictable offline as I am online. Not too bad a compliment then." She tilted her head upwards slightly, before continuing, sounding genuinely interested, "What trait?"

"I never would have guessed you were blind," Miyume answered timidly.

Somehow it felt wrong to even mention it or maybe she was just assuming Haruka might be sensitive about her handicap because she was.

"I mean no offense," she added quickly. "I'm just curious about the technology you use to be able to interact online. I've never met anyone like you before so I don't know anything about it. But I'd like to know more if you're comfortable with sharing."

Haruka's head remained turned away for a few moments longer, and then slowly turned to face Hazama during Hazama's word vomit. She let the silence linger for a bit, before saying simply,

"Oh yeah. The great veil of anonymity computers disguises gender, age, and the physical under it's guidance." She shrugged however, and said with a slight smile, "I use a screen reader occasionally but that's slow and it lulls me to sleep when it's narrating long texts. So braille display most of the time."

"Oh, that's really interesting!"

And it was. Miyume didn't know much about computers or electronics aside from what she learned in school. Her family couldn't afford to purchase new gadgets. She was extremely lucky to just have her own cellphone.

"I walk with a cane," she offered after a moment of thought. "I have a rare nerve disorder. It causes nerve damage, mostly in my arms and legs. So my sense of touch isn't quite the same as other people's. I have one but most of the time it's dulled or triggers the wrong sensations entirely."

That seemed to catch Haruka off-guard. She guessed bits such as the sound she'd heard when Hazama entered and comments about doctor's advice for physical therapy so something had to have been there. She just wasn't expecting to hear the confirmation or a full explanation like that.

Having it though, Haruka didn't respond for a few moments. She replied, finally,

"I guess that makes too of us. I wouldn't have guessed that from how well you handle yourself."

There was a definite sigh of relief.

"I try not make too big of a deal over it, if I can. People tend to trip all over themselves trying to help me when it's the last thing I want."

Miyume gazed at the pool, sounding a tad wistful.

"The water's the only place I can move freely like that. There's no pressure dragging me down."

"Yep. I can get that." And Haruka sounded like she really did. She didn't quite sound as light and chill as she usually did.

However, after a few moments, she stood and untied the towel from her waist again. She turned her head back and shrugged slightly. "Think I'm going to do another lap in the water. Want to join?"
